#BiteTrails: Kaiju

Neon sign of a strange beast (akin to godzilla) and an origami dragon that lit up charismatically at night - if you have seen these two features repetitively on your social media feed, no doubt you've heard or even been to Kaiju Company already. Its bright-lit environment that gives its ash grey walls a beautiful shade, redesigned plastic milk cartons with stainless steel covers adds that innovative industrial touch and not forgetting its mini bar decorated with Japanese wallpaper which gives off a warmer nostalgic feel to the space.

If the interior has yet to give you a good impression, their Japanese and Thai fusion cuisine definitely satisfied my tastebuds. Going more for the flavours, my friend and I shared three dishes to have a taste of what Kaiju has to offer:
  • Tom Yum Udon - the soup was well balanced between its spicy and sour taste with strong lemongrass fragrant. It may be tad creamier for some but it suits my preference well which make up for the slight soggy udon noodles and other ingredients.
  • 555 Salmon Tata (top left) - Torched salmon sashimi over mash potato salad with wasabi garlic oil and truffle oil has great presentation but I definitely expected more flavours with its combination.
  • Last but not least, Tuna Tataki - perhaps my favourite among them with its soft and tender texture then came along the crunch of dried prawns in between your bites, all too well combined with its topping and tangy papaya salad.

Although the dishes are on the pricier end, I will still return especially for its Tuna Tataki and to try other dishes as well as its sake drinks too. Be warned of long waiting time as it has limited spaces so not really recommended for big crowds.
